Hillsborough County School District places Bailey Elementary principal on leave

By Marlene Sokol | Tampa Bay Times Staff Writer

With less than two weeks remaining before summer break, the Hillsborough County School District has taken principal Russell Wallace out of Bailey Elementary School in Dover.

Wallace still holds the title of principal, but he is on leave while Louis "Tim" Binder, an administrator on special assignment, assumes his duties.

An investigation is under way in the Office of Professional Standards, district spokeswoman Tanya Arja confirmed on Wednesday, June 1. Records of that investigation will not be public until it is complete.

The issue, parents were told in an automated message, was a possible disagreement between Wallace and parents at the school.

Wallace, 42, has been the principal of Bailey, a B-rated school, since 2013. Before that he was assistant principal of Valrico Elementary. He has worked for the school district since 2001.

Reached at his home on Thursday, June 2, Wallace said he could not comment.

We will continue to update this story as more details are released.
