Gator attack in Walden Lake

A man was attacked by an alligator Wednesday, April 6, in Walden Lake.

Eddie Evans, the community's landscape contractor, was at Walden Lake Park trimming bushes at the edge of the water. As he worked, an alligator emerged from the water and got ahold of his boot, dragging Evans into the water.

Evans was wearing hard rubber boots, and used his keys to hit the alligator on the head. Once the alligator opened its mouth, Evans freed himself and went back to shore.

"We're filing a police report," Walden Lake Community Association President Bob Hunter said.

Evans is still able to walk and is recovering. The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission has been notified and will be in the area on Thursday, April 7.

Walden Lake residents are encouraged to use caution in the area, especially those that have pets and children.
