Former Gator added to VSI W-League team

RELEASE – VSI Tampa Bay FC announced that former American college and professional soccer midfielder Stacy Bishop has signed with the team for the 2013 W- League season, pending USSF approval.

Bishop, a native of the Tampa area and who last played for the Atlanta Beat of Women’s Professional Soccer, will make her debut for VSI Tampa Bay FC this season.

Stacy Bishop has experienced success with every stop in her career. Bishop played for Land O’ Lakes high school and led them to the State title in her senior year. All American Bishop still holds the all-time scoring record for Pasco County with 192 goals.

After high school Bishop accepted an athletic scholarship to attend Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, where she played for the LSU Tigers women’s soccer team in 2003 and 2004.

At LSU, she led the SEC in shots and was third in points. After her sophomore year, she transferred to the University of Florida in Gainesville, Florida, and played for coach Becky Burleigh’s Florida Gators women’s soccer team in 2005 and 2006.

Bishop was recognized as a first-team All-American and a Mac Hermann semi-finalist in 2006. In both 2006 and 2007, she was an Academic All-American and a first-team All- Southeastern Conference (SEC) selection. She was named 2007 SEC Tournament MVP.

Bishop made ten appearances for the Boston Breakers professional team in 2009. Bishop then signed with the Atlanta Beat for the 2010 WPS season. She appeared in every game for the Beat in 2010 and ranked in the top 5 in minutes played.

With such a storied career, Bishop now joins Tampa for their 2013 season. She joins former teammates and experienced competitors to make up the 2013 VSI Tampa Bay FC team. Catch all of VSI Tampa Bay FC’s home matches in Plant City Stadium this season.
