Family of I-4 Shooting Victim Pleads for Help in Solving the Crime

The Plant City Police Department (PCPD) held a press conference at its headquarters today, where the family of Elizabeth Barbara Arrieta, the 29-year-old woman shot and killed on Tuesday, April 18 in a road rage incident while traveling on I-4 near the Park Road exit, is desperately asking for the public’s help in catching her killer.

Michael Arrieta, brother of the victim who described his sister as a person who always lit up a room, made the plea on the behalf of the family. “If anyone knows anything, the family would be more than appreciative,” he said. “For a crumb, whether it’s from a car club, a commuter, a semi-trucker, if you’ve seen anything, please come forward.”

As the family mourns her loss and prepares for her funeral and remains hopeful that PCPD will solve this crime, Arrieta asked drivers to remain calm when driving on the roadways. “We all need to make it home, whether we’re coming home from work, a vacation or visiting a loved one, it matters that we make it home,” he said. “Road rage shouldn’t go this far, life is beautiful and precious.”

PCPD Chief James Bradford also shared new information about the incident. “In the days since the horrific incident, Plant City police detectives have worked tirelessly to investigate this case and bring the person responsible to justice,” he said.

Elizabeth Barbara Arrieta and a friend, were driving home on I-4 after a day at Anna Maria Island when they were both shot by a Black male in what is believed to be a 2009 – 2015 silver or grey four-door Toyota Prius. Arrieta died from her wounds while her friend was transported to a local hospital. The suspect’s vehicle, which had a temporary paper license plate, is believed to have been equipped with aftermarket high-intensity discharge headlights that give off a blueish hue.

Additionally, PCPD is seeking to interview the driver of a Black Dodge Charger who may have seen or been in contact with the suspect vehicle prior to the shooting. PCPD is requesting the driver of this vehicle to come forward and give a statement.

“I think with the right person coming forward, with the right person willing to assist us, we’ll have a positive resolution to this,” said Bradford.
