When did you find out you are your classes’ valedictorian? How did you react?
I officially found out in the beginning of March and was so honored and grateful to receive this amazing recognition. This title shows that my hard work and perseverance really payed off.
What is something you wish you knew about high school before entering as a freshman?
Something I wish I knew about high school before entering as a freshman is to always be yourself no matter what. High school is a big change and you are constantly experiencing new things and people. Making new friends is hard, but if you remain your most authentic self, the right friends and people will find you, and challenge and support you to be a better person.
What is your favorite high school memory?
My favorite high school memory was all the pep rallies and football games. I was on my school’s dance team for all four years, and danced at all the pep rallies. I love getting the student body involved and cheering for our school.
What is the most important lesson you learned from a teacher or another student while in high school?
The most important lesson I learned is time management. High school can be a lot, whether it’s managing coursework and grades, friends and jobs, and even just your personal life outside of school. It’s important to have good time management and know exactly where your priorities lie. Writing things down or planning in a calendar has helped me not procrastinate school and still have time for other things that are just as important.
What extracurricular activities did you participate in? What was your favorite and why?
Some extracurricular that I participated in were National Honor Society, National English Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta, Unified Buddies, D-Crew Dance Team, and Student Council. However, my favorite extracurricular activity would have to be dance. I have been dancing for 15 years and wouldn’t be the person I am without it. It’s truly shaped me into who I am, and has brought me so many amazing people, and has helped me learn so many things about myself and others. I’m forever grateful for dance.
What are your plans after high school, and your career goals?
I will be attending the University of Florida majoring in Communication Sciences and Disorders, hoping to become a speech pathologist.
What advice would you give students to help them improve their grades?
Some advice I would give to students to help them improve their grades is to pay attention and never give up. Know that it’s okay to ask for help and more time. Getting a few bad grades doesn’t define you as a student or person. Use those bad grades as fuel to get back.
