Cutting 4 a Cure

By Amber Jurgensen | Associate Editor

Pink; It’s fun, flirty and feminine. It’s a common nail color in salons. But on Oct. 20, pink will be the most popular shade at the Focus 4 Beauty Career Center for a whole other reason besides its pretty reputation.

Focus 4 Beauty will be hosting Cutting 4 a Cure, a day where they will be embracing pink in celebration for breast cancer awareness month.

Manicures and pedicures will be pink. Even hair can be dyed or highlighted a pink shade. The dye ranges from temporary, which can be washed out immediately or in a couple days to permanent. Pink hair extensions are an alternative to those who don’t want to dye their hair.

Besides pink services, regular services like trims and hair cuts will also be offered.

The career center will also be offering baked goods, food raffles and giveaways.

The event is being organized and managed by the student body. All proceeds will be donated to the Susan G. Komen foundation for breast cancer.

“They all came to say they wanted to do something for breast cancer awareness,” owner Paul Granville said. “Some don’t have the means to give away money. Some work two jobs, so this was a good way for them to do something for the community.”

Granville guided the girls on how to create, promote and organize the event to involve the community.

“We wanted to create an environment where they could give back and take that with them to their professions,” Granville said. “All the students are driven. This is event is their idea, a result of their promotion and we’ve just given them the tools.”

Focus 4 Beauty Career Center offers training and education to individuals looking to enter the world of cosmetology and barbering.
