Crest soccer heads into break with pair of shutouts

The Strawberry Crest Chargers’ senior night soccer games couldn’t have gone any better for the hosting Chargers teams, which combined to shut out Middleton’s teams 11-0.

First up were the girls, who ended their game at 8-0 with just under 25 minutes left in the second half on a Skylee Jones goal. Six different Chargers (Raegan Monroe, Nimisha Sarkar, Stephanie Briseno, Isamara Flores-Hernandez, Kathlyn Yang and Kali Vician) recorded assists and it was an especially productive game for Vician and Ezra Carpenter. Vician scored four goals and Carpenter netted a hat trick of her own to keep the Chargers in control. Six of the team’s eight goals came in the first half and Vician and Jones scored less than a minute apart from each other in the second half to put the game away.

Next up were the boys, who picked up a 3-0 win over the Tigers in the 8 p.m. game with two goals in the first half and one in the second. As with the girls’ game, all of the goals were scored by three Chargers (Andrew Contreras, Brendan Brown and Moes Bouazizi).

With the Dec. 11 wins, both teams remained undefeated in 2020 as the girls improved to 7-0 and the boys to 6-0-1 (with a 2-2 tie at Freedom on Dec. 4). Both visited Tampa Bay Tech on Tuesday and won by final scores of 2-0 (boys) and 4-0 (girls).

The Chargers will visit Robinson tonight in their last game before the winter break. The girls kick off at 6 p.m. and the boys at 8 p.m.
