AUG. 18

SMASH AND GRAB

2900 block of Wilder Creek Drive. Vehicle Burglary. Unknown suspect(s) entered the vehicle by breaking the passenger window. Once inside, the suspect(s) stole an HP laptop computer valued at $1,000.

BIG HAUL

340 block of Park Spring Circle. Burglary. Unknown suspects entered the victim’s vehicle by breaking the window. Once inside, the suspects stole a stereo and amplifier valued at $70. The suspects then climbed onto the balcony of the victim’s second-story apartment and cut the screen allowing entry to the apartment. Once inside they took a took 50-inch flat-panel TV, valued at $500, a 19-inch flat-panel TV, valued at $200, a DVD player, valued at $70, and miscellaneous tools, valued at $300.

ROAD RAGE

500 block of East Calhoun Street. Shooting. The victim got into a verbal confrontation with a suspect, who was driving a tan Mitsubishi Galant. The victim threw a brick at the suspect’s vehicle. The suspect pulled out a gun and shot at the victim. The victim suffered a grazing bullet wound to his chin, which did not require any medical attention. This investigation is ongoing.

QUICK TRIP

1200 block of Goldfinch Drive. Residential Burglary. Unknown suspect(s) stole three necklaces, valued at $500, an amplifier, speaker system and other miscellaneous jewelry.

MILLER TIME

2000 block of North Wheeler Street. Petit Theft. An unknown suspect stole an 18-can pack of beer and fled northbound on North Wheeler Street. The beer was valued at around $15.

AUG. 19

SPEED AND WEED

Intersection of North Franklin and West Cherry streets. Possession of Marijuana. An officer conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle for speeding. Upon making contact with the driver and sole occupant, the officer could smell the distinct odor of marijuana inside the vehicle. The officer had the occupant exit the vehicle and then conducted a search. The search revealed 10.8 grams of marijuana packaged in a plastic baggie in the suspect’s purse.

… BUT, WHY WERE HIS PANTS DOWN?!?

300 block of North Wilder Road. Possession of Methamphetamine/Paraphernalia. Officers responded to the mobile home park in reference to a suspicious vehicle on a vacant lot. The officers approached the vehicle and saw the vehicle was occupied by an individual. The man was sitting in the driver’s seat with his pants around his ankles. The officer had the occupant get dressed and exit the car. When the occupant exited the car, the officer could see a black case on the seat next to where the suspect had been sitting. The officer obtained consent to search and found the case to contain 2.6 grams of crystal methamphetamine. The officer also located a glass pipe, six plastic straws, numerous baggies and a large digital scale.

AUG. 20

TOILET TROUBLE

601 E. Laura St. Criminal Mischief. Unknown suspect(s) vandalized Mary B. Ellis Park. The suspect(s) broke the wooden walls around the toilet, causing about $100 in damage.

BAD DECISION

Intersection of Interstate 4 and Alexander Street. Recovered Stolen Vehicle. Plant City police received notification from the Hillsborough County Sheriffs Office regarding a stolen 26-foot Penske box truck. At 10:37 a.m., an officer advised he was behind the stolen truck on Alexander Street and was northbound toward I-4. The officer followed the truck until back-up units arrived and then attempted to pull over the truck on I-4 eastbound between Park Road and County Line Road. The driver slowed down, jumped from the truck and ran southbound across South Frontage Road into a swampy, heavily wooded area. Sheriff’s Office K9 and air support arrived on scene. The suspect was subsequently located during the track. He was arrested and charged with auto theft, resist arrest without violence, fleeing to elude and driving with a suspended license.

FAST CASH

1900 block of Sammonds Road. Residential Burglary. An unknown suspect entered the unlocked residence and proceeded to kick open a bedroom door, which was padlocked shut. Upon making entry, the suspect stole about $100 in coins and cash currency.

SPARE PARTS

200 block of East Terrace Drive. Theft. Unknown suspect(s) stole miscellaneous motor-vehicle parts valued at $5,000. Parts taken included mirrors, pull bars, headlights, turn signals, fenders, air filter, dashboard and a seat belt.

AUG. 21

UP TO NO GOOD

600 block of North Maryland Avenue. Loitering and Prowling; Possession of Burglary Tools. Officers made contact with the suspect, who was wearing a black long-sleeved shirt and carrying a black duffel bag on a bicycle behind at about 1:15 a.m. behind the grocery store. Upon seeing the officer approach, the suspect dropped the duffle bag, which contained a pipe wrench, screwdrivers, a flashlight, knife and rags. Because of the time, location and behavior, the suspect was unable to dispel the officer’s concern of criminal intent. He was arrested for loitering and prowling and possession of burglary tools.

AUG. 23

WALLET WOES

2500 block of James L. Redman Parkway. Vehicle Burglary. The victim was getting gas and left her wallet in the passenger seat while paying with a credit card. A maroon van pulled up, and the driver took the wallet from the unlocked car and fled before being detected. There is video of the incident.

SHOPPING SPREE

2600 block of James L. Redman Parkway. Shoplifting/Petit Theft. The suspect was caught on surveillance cameras concealing hardware items. The suspect then went into the shoe department and removed tags from shoes and placed them on her feet, leaving her worn shoes behind. She then went into the jewelry department and concealed several pair of earrings.
