Cops Corner 04.17.14

The following information was gathered from incident and arrest reports obtained from the Plant City Police Department.

MARCH 21

MISSING WHEELS

4350 block of West U.S. 92. Grand Theft/Burglary. Officers responded to the business, in reference to the theft of an enclosed utility trailer and a Yamaha Rhino utility four-wheeler. Sometime overnight, unknown suspect(s) stole the trailer, with an attached Florida tag, 739TLA. The four-wheeler was in the trailer. The four wheeler is valued at $6,500 and the trailer around $5,000.

FIVE-FINGER DISCOUNT

2600 block of James L. Redman Parkway. Retail Theft. Officers responded to the store in reference to a suspect stealing. When officers arrived, the suspect fled on foot but was caught by officers. Almost $275 worth of property was returned to the store. The suspect was transported to the Orient Road Jail.

GOING FOR THE GOLD

420 block of Pevetty Drive. Residential Burglary. The victim’s home was burglarized. Entry was made via an unsecured kitchen door. There was no damage to the interior or exterior of the home. Unknown suspect(s) stole one 18-inch gold necklace with a “Ruby” name charm, valued at $200; three Timex watches, valued at $60; one silver dollar piece from the 1800s, valued at $20; one antique nickel, valued at $5; and two kitchen knives; valued at $5.

MARCH 22

WELCOME WAGON

1500 block of North Wills Avenue. Vehicle Burglary. Overnight, unknown person(s) entered an unsecured 2004 Chrysler Town and Country van and stole the stock in-dash radio and a pair of sunglasses. The victim was visiting from Illinois.

MEAN STREAKS

1400 block of Plantation Court. Criminal Mischief. Overnight, unknown person(s) used flat black spray paint to put a zig-zag design on the sides of a Lincoln Navigator SUV. The suspect(s) also cut one of the victims tires.

DANGEROUS MOVES

Intersection of South Collins and East Alsobrook streets. Aggravated Fleeing to Elude. The officer observed a man driving a silver four-door and waiting at the traffic light to turn. The officer made eye contact and knew the driver on sight and knew his driver’s license to be suspended. He turned around and attempted a traffic stop, using lights and siren. The suspect refused to stop and drove recklessly while trying to escape, forcing several vehicles of the road. The officer discontinued the stop and turned off his lights; no crashes took place. The next day, the officer made contact with the suspect outside the suspect’s home. Upon seeing the officer, the suspect attempted to flee into the home. The officer chased him inside and arrested him.

OPEN HOUSE

3810 block of Creek Way Court. Criminal Mischief. The officer met with the victim, who advised she is the owner of the vacant home. A window on the south side of the house had been broken and a fence post was thrown through the lanai screen. She learned about the damage, after a Realtor showed the home March 20.

ALL THAT FIT IN A MAZDA?!?

300 block of South Frontage Road. Vehicle Burglary. The officer was patrolling the hotel property, when she located a Mazda 3 with a broken front passenger-door window. She saw two juveniles walking away from the area and tried to make contact with them. They ran toward Shannon Avenue and then south. They split up in different directions, and one was located and detained. His parents responded, and, post-Miranda, he was questioned. He advised he and another person broke the window and took property from the vehicle. A search of the area led to the recovery of all of the property behind the Dumpsters. A Playstation 4, cameras and lenses, hookah pipe apparatus and a Kicker subwoofer box and two amplifiers — all valued at more than $3,000 — were recovered.

MARCH 23

OOPS

Intersection of East Reynolds and South Warnell streets. Officer-Involved Traffic Accident. The officer was driving east in the south lane, when a gray Chevrolet pulled out in front of him from the stop sign on South Warnell Street. The driver struck the police cruiser on the driver’s-side door. No one was injured.

STEREO STOLEN

300 block of South Frontage Road. Vehicle Burglary. Overnight, unknown person(s) entered an unlocked 2000 black Honda Civic and stole an Dual in-dash CD player, valued at $100.

CHRYSLER CRISIS

200 block of Pvetty Drive. Grand Theft of Motor Vehicle. Sometime overnight, unknown person(s) stole a silver Chrysler Sebring, Mississippi license plate, JBD106.

CAUGHT RED-HANDED

2100 block of James L. Redman Parkway. Retail Theft. The suspect attempted to steal $30.69 worth of merchandise from the department store.

NOT TOO BRIGHT

Intersection of Charles Avenue and Alexander Street. Driving with a License Suspended or Revoked with Knowledge. The officer conducted a traffic stop for the suspect driving toward oncoming traffic with high beams on. The driver had a learner’s license with six suspensions. She was arrested and transported to Orient Road Jail without incident. The registered owner responded and took possession of the vehicle.

MARCH 24

BETTER CALL SAUL

Intersection and Hunter and West Grant streets. Possession of Methamphetamine. The officer made contact with a suspicious vehicle and persons at the park, after hours. The female consented to a vehicle search; the officer located a small baggie with crystal methamphetamine. The officer was arrested and transported to Orient Road Jail.

MARCH 24

HUGGIES HEIST

2600 block of James L. Redman Parkway. Retail Theft. A black female wearing leopard print pants stole some diapers. The female exited the business without paying for the diapers. Loss-prevention officials confronted the female, but she walked away. She was picked up by another female and fled in a pickup.

MARCH 25

THAT’S NOT YOURS

110 Burchwood Drive. Residential Burglary. A neighbor saw two suspects, driving an older black car, taking a large TV from inside the residence.

SENSELESS ACT

900 block of Waller Street. Criminal Mischief. Unknown suspect(s) damaged the bathroom door lock and wrote on the bathroom walls.

BAD BEHAVIOR

2600 block of James L. Redman Parkway. Shoplifting/Petit Theft. The female suspect concealed $19 worth of makeup and exited the business.

FORE FREE?

2600 block of James L. Redman Parkway. Shoplifting/Petit Theft. The suspect entered the business, stole a box of golf balls then returned the golf balls for a gift card. The suspect was charged with petit theft, fraudulent returns, and dealing in stolen property. The golf balls were valued at $69.

HEIST THROUGH A HOLE

810 block of West Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard. Business Burglary. The officer responded to the business, in reference to a delayed alarm call. Upon arrival, the officer noticed a hole had been knocked out of the north wall. He also discovered a hole had been cut in the fence along the northwest corner. Inside, two display cases had been smashed out and jewelry was stolen. Some of the jewelry was recovered near the hole in the wall on the inside of the business.

MARCH 27

WHAT A TOOL

2600 block of James L. Redman Parkway. Delayed Petit Theft Report. Officers responded to the store after receiving a call from loss-prevention officials. An unknown suspect entered the store and stole a tool kit. He left in an unknown truck.

WORKOUT WOES

1500 block of YMCA Place. Vehicle Burglary. The officer responded reference a burglary to a vehicle found by a staff member. The vehicle was parked on the northwest side of the business, and entry was made via an unknown blunt object to the front passenger-door window.

MISSING MOWER

1000 block of North Wills Street. Grand Theft. The officer responded to the residence and met with complainant, who is serving as caretaker of the home of his recently deceased uncle. While taking steps to prepare the home and contents for sale, he noticed his uncle’s Craftsman riding mower, valued at $300, was missing. Unknown suspect(s) also stole a bench grinder mounted on a steel pole, valued at $50. Both items were last seen under the carport.

NOT-SO-LOW PROFILE

300 block of Park Springs Circle. Drug Investigation. Officers were dispatched to an unknown type disturbance. Officers met the complainant by the Sunoco gas station and were advised that her son and his girlfriend were in an argument. While en route to the complex, the son was seen at the driveway access, where officers made contact and observed a jar containing marijuana on the seat. It was determined that no threats or physical acts of violence took place towards the girlfriend or mother.
