Cops Corner 04.08.13

APRIL 1

NO GOOD REASON

Cherry Street west of Wilder Road. Criminal Mischief. Unknown suspect(s) broke a water meter cap, pulled the cover off a TECO electrical box and pulled up the handicap signs and threw them in the retention pond.

CRIME OF OPPORTUNITY

1900 block of East Alsobrook Street. Vehicle Burglary. Suspect(s) broke the rear passenger’s vent window with a large brick. Upon entering the vehicle, the suspect(s) stole a knife and attempted to steal the stereo from the dash.

MISSING TAIL

610 block of South Alexander Street. Larceny of Motor Vehicle Parts. Unknown suspect(s) stole a tailgate from a black Ford F350. Total value is $1,000.

GANG VIOLENCE

2200 block of North Warnell Street. Discharged Firearm/Vandalism. The victim advised a lowered, white Dodge Dakota pickup pulled up to his vehicle which was parked in the roadway in front of his house. A person inside the truck shot the rear rim of his car, causing $200 in damages. He believed that the truck was possibly occupied by three Hispanic males who are Sur 13 gang members. As this call went out, another call was received at the 500 block of East Calhoun Street, where the same vehicle shot in the air. At this residence, they believe the occupants of the Dodge pickup were Norte 14 gang members.

BAD DAY

100 block of West Spencer Street. Aggravated Assault on LEO. Officers responded to a call involving the suspect trespassing at the City Cemetery Office. The suspect attempted to run over one of the officers as he fled the scene. He was later found at his residence and came out without further incident when his mother arrived on scene. The suspect was arrested for aggravated assault on LEO, criminal mischief, trespass, aggravated fleeing to elude.

APRIL 2

RED-HANDED

3400 block of James L. Redman Parkway. Recovered Stolen Vehicle/Grand Theft Auto Arrest. Officers responded to a vehicle in the median of the 3400 block of James Redman Parkway. On arrival, they found a white female in the driver’s seat of a vehicle reported stolen out of Hillsborough County. The suspect was arrested and transported to Orient Road Jail.

PERSONAL JESUS

300 block of Park Spring Circle. Theft. The victim’s gold chain and Jesus pendant, worth $600, are missing from her apartment. There are no signs of forced entry.

JUST PAY NEXT TIME

2100 block of James L. Redman Parkway. Retail Theft. The suspect concealed a clothing item worth $5.28 on her person and attempted to exit the store without paying.

APRIL 3

UNFORTUNATE INCIDENT

300 block of East Tomlin Street. Domestic Battery Arrest. During an argument over getting dressed for school, a black female juvenile punched her mother twice in the face. The suspect was arrested and transported to the Juvenile Assessment Center in Tampa.

BRICK BASH

1800 block of East Alabama Street. Criminal Mischief. The victim advised, for two nights in a row, someone has thrown a yard-style brick at her front door, causing a small dent. The damage is estimated at around $50.

STOLEN TAG

220 block of West Alexander Street. Stolen Tag. The victim stated that unknown person(s) removed the tag from his 1996 Jeep Cherokee while he was in school at Plant City High.

BRING YOUR VALUABLES INSIDE

3000 block of Via Roma Court. Vehicle Burglary. Unknown person(s) broke the window on a 2009 Ford in the driveway of the residence and stole a purse and wristlet, valued at $300, driver’s license, and $180 in cash. The purse was recovered near the residence, but no other items were located.

APRIL 4

FUNNY MONEY

1510 block of South Alexander Street. Counterfeit Bills. The store manager advised they had accepted several counterfeit bills over time and wanted to hand them over to the police department. The bills consisted of three $10 bills and two $20 bills.

POWER PLAY

900 block of South Collins Street. Larceny from Motor Vehicle. Two batteries were stolen from a Mazda truck parked on the side of the business. The batteries were valued at about $200 total. Two copper leads, which were valued at $50 each, also were taken.

APRIL 5

CORD CRIMINALS

2200 block of West Reynolds Street. Burglary/Grand Theft. Unknown suspect(s) cut the lock and chain off the Edwards Street gate and entered the compound. Once inside, they broke into the storage area under the stage and stole about $40,000 worth of electrical cords.

ONE BAD NIGHT

100 block of North Palmer Street. Battery. The victim advised she was hit in the stomach by the suspect. As he was leaving, the suspect punched the business window, causing it to break. The suspect was arrested for simple battery and possession of marijuana (found on him during a search incident to arrest) and released on his own recognizance with a court date.

CLEAN GETAWAY

2700 block of Barret Avenue. Residential Burglary. Unknown suspect(s) shattered a rear sliding-glass door to gain entry to the residence and stole about $4,000 worth of jewelry.

APRIL 6

THIEF IN THE NIGHT

3110 block of James L. Redman Parkway. Grand Theft. The property was entered through a previously cut hole in the fence. Unknown suspect(s) stole 28 notched disk blades and an orange-picking ladder.

APRIL 7

GREAT EXAMPLE

Baseball Fields at Cherry Street and Wilder Road. Battery. A coach and an umpire at a Litt le League baseball game got into a fight during a game for children ages 7 and under. Both subjects signed waivers of prosecution and did not wish to press charges.

DISCREET SHOPLIFTER

2100 block of James L. Redman Parkway. Retail Theft. An unknown black female, with red dyed hair and unknown tattoos on chest (appeared to be writing), stole a belt, valued at $30, and four pieces of jewelry, valued at $70. The suspect left the area in a gold-colored SUV.

PANTS PILFERING

2600 block of James L. Redman Parkway. Retail Theft. The suspect concealed two pairs of Dickies pants under his jacket and left the store without paying for them.  Total value was $35.92.

CURIOUS CRIME

1200 block of North Franklin Street. Vandalism. An officer patrolling in the area observed a truck door open with the interior dome light on. He found a large hole under the door lock on the driver side of the truck. The owner was contacted and advised nothing was missing from the vehicle. A search did not locate any suspicious person(s) in the area.
