Celebrity chef promotes healthy, speedy cooking in Plant City

Chef Warren Caterson wants people around the country to put a different spin on “fast food” — healthy meals cooked quickly.

Caterson took his “10 Healthy Meals in 10 Minutes” cooking show to Plant City on Thursday evening, setting up shop in the Bruton Memorial Library meeting room and sharing his tips and tricks with the audience. He began with recommendations for knives and “cupboard items” everyone should have before launching into the recipes themselves: minnestrone soup, frittatas, black bean chili, tilapia and more, largely prepared using canned ingredients and a microwave to save time. Caterson also prepared pan-seared tuna with sesame, soy and a splash of dry sherry for the audience to try.

Before the adults learned how to speed through meal preparations, Caterson put on a show for kids under 18 to demonstrate safe knife techniques, rules for the kitchen and simple, tasty recipes to take home and try out.

Caterson is the author of the Table for Two series of cookbooks for couples and his latest, Outside the Lines, will be published this fall. He does around 150 events around the country each year, with 15 shows in his rotation, and will be back in Plant City in November for his “Thankful Thanksgiving" show.
