Bruton Memorial Library temporarily closed due to potential lice infestation

Bruton Memorial Library closed at 3 p.m. Tuesday, June 21, due to a possible lice infestation.

The building was fumigated Tuesday and will reopen for normal business hours, 10 a.m. to 9 p.m., Wednesday, June 22.

The building is being fumigated to ensure that library patrons are provided with a safe and clean environment.

Head lice are primarily transmitted through head-to-head contact. Indirect transmission of lice may occur through the sharing of bedding, pillows, combs, brushes, hats and headphones.

If you or your child has lice, removing the lice with a comb and soak the comb in hot water for at least 10 minutes. Wash all bedding and clothing in hot water and dry using high heat for at least 30 minutes. Vacuum all rugs and remove lice from other linens, including carpeting and pillows.
