The spill did not reach the nearby storm drain.
A biosolids spill at the Plant City Water Reclamation Facility on Victoria Street on Tuesday, Oct. 4, provided no threat to human health or the environment.
A spill of about 900 gallons of biosolids materials left the drain line at the Plant City Water Reclamation Facility partially clogged. The spill, which has since been cleaned up and reported to the Florida Department of Environmental Protection.
The spill was contained to 30-foot by 50-foot area. A Jet-Vac was used to clear the clogged drain line, and the spill was contained before it was able to reach the storm drain.
The biosolids materials were residues remaining in liquid form after the solids were treated by the wastewater treatment plant, according to City Manager Mike Herr.
"The bio solid liquid is actually spread in agricultural fields," Herr said. "The city has a vendor who does this."
After clearing the area, City employees placed a covered cloth and sandbags around the storm drain to prevent intrusion into the stormwater system.
The spill did not extend out of the Victoria Street property.
