ATHLETE OF THE WEEK: EDEN WILLIAMS

The Plant City Dolphins won the UYFL’s Mighty Mites National Championship with a great team effort across the board, but the star of the championship game was running back Eden Williams. In the fourth quarter, Williams torched the Homewood Flossmoor Vikings with three rushing touchdowns and several big, drive-saving gains, helping to get the team some championship rings for Christmas.

You guys were down in the third quarter, but then you came back and won the game. What were you thinking about, going into the fourth quarter?

I was thinking that we were gonna lose, and that we didn’t have a way to come back. But, then I prayed to God, and we made it.

You started the comeback with a 30-yard rushing touchdown to pull the team within one score. What were you thinking on that play?

I thought I wasn’t going to make it. They were doubling up, so I thought I wasn’t going to make it. I just tried my best, and I did it.

So, after that play, is that when you first thought that you guys could pull out a win?

Yes, I did.

Word is that everyone you guys played in this tournament was undefeated, until they played you. How does it feel to beat them all and win this tournament?

It’s amazing. It was… I don’t know what to say about it.

Have you ever been a part of anything like this?

No. This is awesome.

What was your favorite game of this tournament?

This one!

How are you going to celebrate this big win?

Chuck E. Cheese! Oh yeah, Chuck E. Cheese. I’m gonna play all of those games, get all of that pizza.

How long have you been playing football?

Two years. All with the Dolphins.

You were lining up under center on some snaps, but what other positions do you play?

Linebacker and running back.

But what’s your favorite?

Running back. I like scoring touchdowns.

Who’s your favorite athlete?

Adrian Peterson.

What’s your favorite team?

The Denver Broncos. I like Peyton Manning.

What do you think is the coolest thing you’ve ever done on a football field?

Running it all the way back for a touchdown. I did it last game.

Would you rather be rich or famous?

Famous, so I can be an athlete and people will always remember me. I will be in books.

What team would you want to play for?

The Denver Broncos, at running back.

If you could have any superpower, what would it be?

Laser beams. To shoot lasers out of my eyes.

If you could meet anybody, who would it be?

Adrian Peterson. I’d talk to him about how to become a better running back.

What are you looking forward to next year?

More touchdowns, and more breakthroughs.
