McKenna is a senior at Strawberry Crest High School, where she cheers for the Chargers’ varsity cheer team.
How long have you been cheerleading?
I’ve been cheering for about 7 years, including all four years of high school.
What’s your favorite thing about cheering?
My favorite part of cheer is the bonds I’ve built with my teammates and the friendships that have come from it.
What’s your favorite memory involving cheer?
My favorite memory is from my sophomore year at Nationals in 2024, when we became national champions. That moment was unforgettable.
How fun is game day on Fridays, cheering for your school with your team?
Friday nights are one of my favorite parts of high school cheer. There’s nothing like cheering under the lights with my best friends and hyping up the crowd.
What are you going to miss the most about high school cheer?
I’ll definitely miss taking the mat with my team, but most of all, I’ll miss the special bonds and memories we’ve made together.
Do you plan on going to college? If so, do you plan on cheering?
Yes, I plan on going to college, but I haven’t decided yet if I’ll continue cheerleading.
What’s an area of cheer that you want to improve in?
Answer: I’d like to keep improving my tumbling skills and push myself to learn more advanced passes.
What advice would you give someone wanting to try out for the Chargers team next year?
Do it! My freshman year, I wasn’t sure if I should try out, but it ended up being one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. I’ve made so many memories and lifelong friends through cheer.
What’s a sport that you haven’t played that you would like to try, and why?
I’d love to try volleyball; it seems like such a fun and competitive sport.
When you’re not cheering, what are you doing in your free time?
When I’m not cheering, I’m usually spending time with my friends or family, just hanging out and relaxing.
