Emma is a senior at Strawberry Crest High and is the Flag Captain of the Band’s Color Guard Team, the Chargerettes. She is in her 4th year of color guard.
What made you want to join color guard, and what got you interested in it?
I wanted to make new friends and meet new people.
What’s your favorite part about performing with the team?
Making new memories with people who have become my second family.
What is the most challenging part of color guard that people might not realize?
The amount of time, effort, and commitment that goes into being a part of a sports team.
How much time and preparation goes into learning a routine before a performance?
A very long time, rarely weeks, mostly months; sometimes even planning starts a year in advance.
How would you describe the teamwork and chemistry within the color guard?
It’s like a family; you love each other, but sometimes there are moments where you can’t stand one another.
Is there a particular performance or moment that has been your favorite so far? Why?
My favorite performance for marching season was the 25-26 marching show, Feelin’ the Funk. The band played some amazing tunes, and our outfits were adorable!
What do you think color guard teaches you that you can carry into other parts of your life?
Leadership skills, communication, and being prepared
What are your goals for yourself and the team this season?
Better communication and working together.
