Alexis Garza is a 16-year-old at Plant City High School and is a member of the Plant City High School Varsity Cheer Team.
How long have you been cheerleading?
Answer: I’ve been doing cheerleading since I was 5 years old with the Plant City Dolphins.
What’s your favorite thing about cheerleading?
My favorite thing is all of the close, long-lasting friendships I’ve made and how much fun I have every season.
What’s your favorite memory about cheerleading?
My favorite memory is making varsity as a junior. After working so hard for so many years, it was such an amazing feeling to see all of that hard work pay off.
What’s the hardest thing about cheerleading?
I’d say the hardest thing is balancing everything between school, cheer, and my personal life, but it’s so worth it in the end. The memories, friendships, and experiences make all the effort pay off.
How did it feel to make varsity cheer as a junior?
It was one of the best feelings ever. I was so excited and proud of myself because I had worked toward that goal for a long time. I actually got cut my freshman year, made JV my sophomore year, and then finally made varsity as a junior. It showed me that if you keep working hard and never give up, your hard work will pay off. It made all of the hard work worth it.
What advice would you give to those trying out for varsity next year?
Believe in yourself, work hard, and never give up. Even if you don’t make it the first time, keep pushing yourself because your hard work will pay off.
When you’re not cheerleading, what are you doing in your free time?
I love spending time with my friends and family, going to the beach, shopping, and just relaxing whenever I get the chance.
Do you have any fun plans the rest of Summer?
I’m looking forward to going to the beach with my friends and family, going on a few trips, and getting ready for an exciting senior year and cheer season!
