How long have you been cheering?
8 years total – 4 years in high school, 4 years in rec
What’s your favorite thing about cheering?
The teamwork that it takes to execute our stunts, for me to be a flyer, and the hard work and hours it takes to hit that stunt and make sure it hits every time.
How did it feel winning Nationals in your senior year?
Unbelievable, we came very close the previous year, but came home with 2nd place, and to be able to finish my high school cheer career with a national championship was unforgettable. It really showed me that hard work does pay off.
So, you won Nationals in two different divisions? Which one meant more to you?
The gameday win meant more to me because I am much more passionate about game day. I’ve been doing it for three years now, and my teammates and coaches play a huge part in it. My team has a very close bond, you can see on and off the mat, and my coaches truly have unconditional love for us.
Did you prefer game day or comps when cheering, and why?
Game day is definitely great, cheering on the sidelines with the parents in the stands and the game going on, but I personally like competition more. The pressure to perform and execute on the mat at the competitions, walking out with everyone cheering for you, and knowing you did your job when walking off the mat is the best feeling in the world.
What’s something you’re going miss the most about cheering in high school?
Everything, the friendships I’ve made, the bond with my team, the coaches pushing us to do our best, getting in uniform with my friends for games and competitions, praying before we go on the mat, the fun times at practices. Everything!
What advice would you give someone wanting to try out for the team next year?
You have to want it; nothing is handed to a national champion. You have to work hard and be passionate about cheer, keep pushing yourself even if you want a break cause the reward is so worth it.
When you’re not cheering, what are you doing in your free time?
I enjoy baking sweets, going on walks, trying different coffee shops, crafting, painting, and hanging out with friends and family.
