Niko is a senior at Durant High School, where he just finished the basketball season on the Cougars varsity basketball team.
How long have you been playing basketball?
I’ve been playing for about 8 years.
What’s your favorite thing about basketball?
My favorite thing about basketball is that when you are on a team, your teammates aren’t just your teammates but your brothers. Being able to build a bond that’s deeper than just the game of basketball is the best thing to me.
Talk to me about the game-winning 3-pointer you made to eliminate Strawberry Crest. What a shot, man!
We were down by two, with no timeouts and five seconds left. Our other guard found me on the wing, and I knocked down the 3 with two defenders on me to beat the buzzer. Definitely a crazy shot with the game being on the line and it’s win or go home, and it could have potentially been my last high school game.
Would you say that’s your favorite memory of playing basketball? If not, what is?
Yeah I definitely would say that’s my favorite moment playing basketball.
Is there an area in basketball that you want to improve in?
I would like to improve on having more pace in my game and not letting the defense speed me up.
When you’re not hooping, what are you doing in your free time?
In my free time, I really like to golf.
Now that your senior year of ball is over, do you have any plans to play in the future?
No, I don’t plan on playing anywhere else in the future.
Who’s someone on the Durant team that we’ve got to watch out for next season?
Alijah McFadden
