ARTIST PROFILE: Thompson Square

Sometimes, all you need is love.

That’s the approach that country music duo Thompson Square have taken with their work, and their quick rise to fame is the proof.

The husband-and-wife team of Keifer and Shawna Thompson has been making music together since 2010, with Shawna on the microphone and Keifer on guitar and background vocals. The band signed with Stoney Creek Records in early 2010 and released its first single, “Let’s Fight,” in the middle of that year.

But it was “Are You Gonna Kiss Me Or Not,” the band’s second single, that catapulted the Thompsons to fame. It debuted in the middle of summer 2010 and quickly reached No. 1 on Billboard’s Hot Country chart, before going double-platinum and helping the band earn a pair of Grammy nominations.

The song also became the inspiration for a 384-page novel of the same name that the band, in conjunction with Christian writer Travis Thrasher, wrote and published in 2013.

The strength of that song also pushed their 2011 self-titled debut album to No. 3 on the Hot Country chart and No. 15 on the Billboard 200. The couple’s other two singles, “I Got You” and “Glass,” each peaked in the country chart’s Top 15.

Success came their way again in 2012 with the release of “If I Didn’t Have You,” the first single from 2013’s Just Feels Good. That song hit No. 1 on the U.S. Country Airplay chart and No. 7 on the Hot Country chart, and earned a Gold certification from the RIAA.

The band has toured with stars such as Jason Aldean and Luke Bryan in the past and currently is supporting its latest album on the Just Feels Good Tour.
