We asked Plant City: What is your stance on the Oxford comma?
It is important for distinction. Like if you were to say, “My book is dedicated to my parents, JFK and Muhammad Ali” instead of “My book is dedicated to my parents, JFK, and Muhammad Ali”. The first one sounds as if my parents are JFK and Muhammad Ali.
Shannon Crosby
It should be renamed to the Oxford Comma of America
Lulu Ram
I use it! I love books, coffee, and the Oxford Comma.
Kayla Skipper Self
Depends on the sentence structure but often prevents misunderstanding.
To say, “I’d like to thank my parents, David, Hannah and God” doesn’t mean God is one of your parents but a comma clarifies the sentence.
