Plant City reacts to the demolition of the old Post Office.
I remember reading the wanted posters on the wall when I went in with my dad.

The Plant City Post Office changed my life when Amos Tickel (sp?) gave Winson Hinkle the directions to my mother’s house in Sydney. The rest is history.

Man the memories!! I was just in Plant City and drove right by. The memories of the old post office and me and my granny driving there to drop off her mail. Time moves on but I’m glad for the memories!!!

I would go there with my grandmother throughout the early 90’s. I can remember the smell and the little star looking combination keys to open the PO Boxes.

Welp the city was looking for an additional building with parking. Now they got it. Hopefully there will be a few historical pieces on display in the new building. A good move for the city.

My dad used to send me in to get his office mail from his post office box. I felt so grown up

Just last Wednesday, I was waiting at the red light and glanced over at the old post office building. Thoughts of all the times I had been there, of how it was one of the main buildings that still looked the same in PC. I remembered some of the clerks who worked there. Postmaster Harris was one of my favorite customers when I worked at the Hillsboro Bank.
Made me think it would be great if they make it into a memorial useful, community center. I thought it would’ve made a great chamber of commerce building. Would’ve been very visible to visitors and not tucked away on an out-of-the-way street.
Seeing this post and this picture today, breaks my heart

When I was a teenager I worked at Moody & Moody insurance. One of my tasks was to get money put on the postage meter. So many memories of walking to the post office.
I understand it was beyond repair yet it is still a nostalgic experience.

In its best years, it was a beautiful building both inside and out. My dad looked forward to his daily trip there

I used to take my art students there to learn how to paint Christmas widows. The highlight for them was going down into the “basement” to get the materials. That was the talk in class the next day, “We saw the basement!” I also remember feeling bad for employees working in the mold. Sad the historical building couldn’t be salvaged and repurposed. Everything old becomes new again and is what helps keep the charm of a historical town.

I remember the stamp vending machine that was in the parking lot. I thought that was so cool.

Bittersweet! My Dad, Grandad Gardner and Uncle David Gardner worked at the Post Office as well! I am sad! A true landmark for this once small town! Miss those days and very sad to see it go! Sometimes change is hard!

Always the same….let things deteriorate to the point there is no other option to make sure there are no ties to the community. What a shame.
