Downtown Plant City is about to get a little more whimsical, and a whole lot more feline.
On Saturday, July 25, from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Alley Cat Market will transform the parking lot of the Robert W. Willaford Railroad Museum into Plant Kitty, a celebration of cats, local artists, small businesses, and community spirit. The free, family-friendly event will feature more than 30 vendors, live entertainment, activities for children, local nonprofits, and opportunities to support the organizations working tirelessly to help community cats throughout our area.
Held at 102 N. Palmer Street, Alley Cat Market is more than just another shopping event. It was created with a simple mission: to bring people together while raising awareness about the thousands of homeless cats living in our communities and the local rescue organizations dedicated to helping them.
Visitors can browse a curated collection of artists, makers, and specialty vendors offering everything from original artwork and handmade gifts to cat-themed apparel, home decor, accessories, and jewelry. Shops such as Felinious and Kitty Kat’s Catnip Mats will be bringing unique merchandise that celebrates our favorite four-legged companions, making it the perfect opportunity to find something special for both cats and the people who adore them. Of course, no community market would be complete without plenty of delicious food and drinks. Guests can enjoy a wide variety of local favorites throughout the day, including Pamz Pizza Conez, Tamale Factory, Seasoned Green Vegan, Mobile Bubble Cat serving refreshing boba teas, She Brews Beans coffee, and Bubbles & Bites with creative dirty sodas.
Families are encouraged to make a full day of their visit. The neighboring Robert W. Willaford Railroad Museum will be open during the event with free admission, offering visitors another wonderful way to explore one of downtown Plant City’s historic attractions.
After shopping and enjoying the festivities, organizers also encourage guests to explore the surrounding downtown businesses that make Plant City such a unique destination. Stop in to browse the thoughtfully curated collections at Sweet Roots Apparel, discover locally made goods at The Mercantile, or find handcrafted treasures at Crafted Butterfly. Supporting local businesses alongside local nonprofits helps strengthen the entire downtown community.
Throughout the day, there will be plenty of entertainment and activities for visitors of all ages.
Bruton Memorial Library will host four cat-themed story times at 10:30 a.m., 11:30 a.m., 1:00 p.m., and 3:30 p.m., creating a cozy space for young readers and their families to enjoy stories celebrating everyone’s favorite furry companions.
At 12:30 p.m., local songwriter and musician Sarah Mae Gunn will lead a community sing-along of the iconic song Smelly Cat, promising one of the day’s most memorable and lighthearted moments. Guests will also find cat-themed photo opportunities throughout the market, making it easy to capture memories with family and friends. Community organizations will also play an important role during the event. Spotlight Children’s Theatre will be among the nonprofits participating, highlighting the many organizations that contribute to Plant City’s vibrant community.
At the heart of Alley Cat Market, however, is its commitment to helping cats in need.
The event’s nonprofit sponsor, Catnip Kitties, will be on-site alongside Botany Cats, giving visitors the opportunity to learn more about local rescue efforts, fostering opportunities, and one of the most effective tools for reducing homeless cat populations: Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR).
TNR is a humane approach that involves trapping community cats, having them spayed or neutered, vaccinated, and then returning them to the areas they call home. Communities that embrace TNR often see healthier cat populations and fewer kittens born outdoors, helping reduce the cycle of homelessness over time.
While rescue organizations work tirelessly to save lives every day, they can’t do it alone. Foster homes, volunteers, donations, and community support remain critical to helping cats recover, find loving homes, and receive the medical care they need.
To help support those efforts, several family-friendly games will be available throughout the event for a small donation. Every dollar raised through the games will go directly to supporting local rescues and their lifesaving missions.
Alley Cat visitors can visit with and cuddle adorable and adoptable cats on the Botany Cats bus for a small donation. Participants will also have the chance to win fun prizes including plush toys, squishies, children’s meal gift certificates generously provided by Plant City Chick-fil-A, and even a chance to take home a $60 CatLadyBox prize package.
Organizers hope that beyond the shopping, food, and entertainment, visitors will leave inspired to become part of the solution. Whether that means volunteering a few hours each month, fostering a kitten, supporting TNR programs, donating supplies, or simply learning more about the challenges facing community cats, every small act of kindness makes a difference.
